In 2007, we lost a friend in our community.  Soccoro Lopez was tragically killed in an accident, while training with her family.  Soccoro was a great friend of ours and we truly will miss her joyous life.  One thing you could always count on was a HUGE smile and jovial spirit from Soccoro.  Our deepest sympathy’s go out to her husband Manuel and 3 boys.  Soccoro was an immigrant of Mexico who aspired for her boys to continue their education after high school.  In honor of Soccoro’s great spirit, we have started the SOCCORO LOPEZ MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND.  With the help of our local community and businesses, we intend for this scholarship to help student/athletes striving to continue their education at a collegiate level.  If you would care to make a financial donation, you may go to any F & M Bank branch and donate to the Socorro Lopez Memorial Scholarship Fund.  Any amount that you can give is one step closer to keeping Soccoro's spirit with us.

If you would like to be a part of our scholarship trustee board, please contact Tony Vice at (209) 952-1446.

remembering socorro

Socorro was one of those people that you meet once and say "Wow". She had a vivacious personality and a smile that could bring sunshine to any gloomy day. She was one of the hardest most dedicated employees I have met in a very long time. She paid close attention to details and was alwys making sure she did the best job possible. This part of Socorro carried over to her family life as well. She has three wonderful sons who are outstanding students as well as athletes and so much of that goes to the dedication that Socorro and Manuel had towards their family and their life-long goals for their children. There is a staff portrait that hangs in our office here at Head Start and each time I walk by I stop for a minute and still have difficulty knowing she is gone. But, she left her spirit among the walls here and will never be forgotten. - Julie Whittock
